Kerala, the God's own country where street dogs rock.

It's extremely miserable for me to say that  I live in a nation where the life of its people has no security as compared to that of animals, especially street dogs.

What makes me say so is the continuous attacks of street dogs to children and common people of kerala and most pitiably  the irresponsible and cruel response of the lovers of  animals  on this matter.

Many children and grown ups have severely been attacked and even one died so far in  the streets of kerala.  Even when I am writing this, I watch a  news report on T.V about an  accident met with by an autorikshaw in Kochi while the street dogs jumped  in front of the autorikshaw that was on the way carrying  a family to their home.  In the accident
the autorikshaw tumbled down   and the seriously injured auto driver was admitted to hospital.
The doctors, in close examination, found that one of his kidneys was damaged and thus it had to be removed later  to rescue him from death. However, the family who travelled in the auto at the time of accident escaped surprisingly.

Now in kerala, each day begins with the news of children being severely attacked by the dogs .  This is the present pitiable condition of kerala- the first state that acquired the status of complete literacy.

On this matter, the Govt of kerala is still not able to take an appropriate action (according to the victims of street dogs , killing them immediately is the appropriate action) due to the order of supreme court already obtained by the lovers of dogs that does not allow to kill  dogs but only sterilization

The lovers of street dogs claim themselves as the real protectors of dogs and also they argue that  sterilization  is the only solution to this problem. Unfortunately the leader of the so called lovers is Maneka Gandhi, Indira Gandhi's daughter- in-law.

Here, in my opinion,  blaming the dogs is not fair.  Because the basic reason for the issue is the indisciplined disposal of waste- especially the waste of meats and foods from hotels that attract the dogs and make them gather and eat it. They experience the taste of meats and thus they become carnivorous and have the tendency to taste ours too. That is why they  brutally attack people.

And also, like other animals, as we know, dogs don't have the ability to think.  They only know  to find means to make their both ends meet by shattering any obstacle that comes on their way. The obstacles may be our pelting  of stones or shouting to them. And when they are not able to find out food or their hunger exceeds its limit, they would surely attack without any provocation because street dogs have many times experienced the taste of flesh from the waste of hotels. The dogs never realise that they really make chaos in the lives of keralites because they don't have the ability to think, as I have mentioned earlier.

Though we have the ability to think and act,  unfortunately we divide ourselves into two groups as the lovers and haters of street dogs.

Those who live in luxury appartments and flats,  travel always in A.C. cars and have only seen their pet dogs can easily become the so called lovers because they are not forced to walk along the streets and face the attacks of dogs even once in their  life.

But the common people including school students whom the self-declared lovers of dogs call as haters,  have to face the attacks in the midst of their busy days  as they are not rich enough to travel in luxury vehicles and so they often become the victims of street dogs.

These horrible experiences  in streets make the common people think against the dogs and gradually they become the haters though normally they are not so.

When the haters want the authorities to kill the dogs immediately, the lovers argue that sterilising  them is the only solution to the issue. But in my opinion, the arguments from both sides are illogical and at the same time cruel.

Here, I have some questions to ask to the lovers of dogs if they insist on sterilising the dogs and preventing to kill them.

1. Can you give the assurance to the people of kerala that the street dogs would never attack any more after sterilization?

2. Will their tendency to attack  end after sterilization ?

3. Don't the dogs too have the right to engage in reproduction, as all other animals?

4. By proposing such a solution, don't you really try to reduce the birth rate of the dogs?

5. If so, how can you claim that you are the real protectors and lovers of the dogs?

I think these questions are not only mine but  of all keralites too. When these contradictories observed in the arguements and actvities of the lovers, the people of kerala could not be blamed if they think that the so-called lovers have an agenda for getting a huge commisson by helping the multinational  companies of medicines to sell the rabies vaccine. And also by putting forward a solution like sterilization, their love to the dogs cannot be thought and felt as sincere.

The haters of street dogs, tired of being attacked, strongly want the govt of kerala to kill the dogs immediately.

In my opinion, killing or sterilization of  dogs is not a permanent solution. The best solution is that , considering the dogs as living beings and  their right for reproduction, the dogs should be locked in shelters immediately.  And also the lovers should be striclty directed by the govt of kerala to pay a fixed amount monthly to feed the dogs after being locked in shelters.  However, I agree that locking them in a shelter is also cruel. But I think doing so is better than killing them.

So, I conclude here with a request to the chief minister of kerala and his govt that they must approach the supreme court of India and try to obtain a favorable order directing the lovers of street dogs to pay an extra tax from their income to feed the dogs and make shelter for them.  Thus let the lovers of dogs get an opportunity to show their real love and responsibility to the dogs rather than limiting their care and love only in twitter, whats app or in their facebook posts.
